Make Your Bed Everyday

Could such a trivial act really make a difference? Well, many would say that it does.

A study by Hunch.com revealed that in fact many of us (59%) don’t make their bed every morning. Only 27% claim that they do – the remainder enjoy having someone else doing it for them!

So, what can we say about those that do make their bed? Are they happier? More productive? Successful? We don’t really know for sure, but the benefits of making your bed in the morning are widely recognised.

The Benefits

Let’s start with the obvious and tangible benefits…

Firstly, it can help create a sense of order and control in your life, which can have a positive impact on your mood and productivity throughout the day. It may seem like a small task, but it might be the first one of the day and it can have a big impact on your daily routine and sense of well-being.

Secondly, it can make your bedroom look neater and more inviting, which can help you feel more relaxed and give a sense of order. Less clutter can help to maintain focus and a sense of calm.

Making your bed can also help keep dust and allergens at bay, which can be beneficial for people with allergies or respiratory issues.

Finally, a well-made bed can be an inviting sight to come home to. You might even feel more inclined to tuck in for an early night and improve your daily sleep pattern.

If You Want to Change the World, Start Off by Making Your Bed

If you’re still not convinced, then check out this short video excerpt. US Navy Seal, Admiral William H. McRaven suggests, “If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed”.

This is such a powerful message should ring true for many of us. I recall the late, great Jim Rohn talking about how the litte tasks in life require just the same discipline as the bigger ones. If you can’t manage to make your bed…or eat an apple a day…or keep a tidy garage…then how can you expect to be successful in other areas – like business, finance or even relationships?
